Textpattern QuikPik Admin Plugin
With support for admin-side plugins added as of Textpattern Rev 198, I began thinking about converting the Original QuikPik Menu Hack to be a true plugin. I also didn’t want to lose the shortcut menus that were added to the newer versions of the QuikPik Menu so I found a way to work both into a plugin.
UPDATE: This plugin has undergone some major changes as of version 0.2.
By far the number one benefit of admin-side plugins is the ability to change the interface without hacking up source code. As soon as zem posted his Admin-side plugin example I was off and running with it. This first cut of the rss_admin_quikpik plugin incorporates the funtionality of all 3 QuikPik versions.

The plugin adds several conveniences to your admin interface.
- Admin menu tabs formatted in an HTML select list. Just look in the upper right hand corner once you leave the admin -> plugins tab.
- The word “QuikPik” next to the drop down is hyperlinked to the extensions -> quikpik tab.
- The plugin tab contains shortcuts to your most recent articles as well as styles, pages and forms.
- Clicking on hyperlinked articles, styles, pages and forms will take you directly into edit mode for whatever you clicked on.
The plugin has been compiled in the “new style”, requiring you only to cut and paste the contents of the download into the textarea at the top of the plugin tab in your admin interface. And again, this plugin requires Textpattern RC3 Rev 198 or later to function.
Another thing to keep in mind… In order to allow for problematic plugins to be uninstalled, you will not see any admin-side plugins, including the quikpik shortcut menu, while you are on the admin -> plugins tab.
