I Hit The GMail Motherload
I received a message tonight asking if I had any GMail invites left. Last I remembered I still had 2 remaining. The account that I send the invites from is not the main account I use. Its a secondary account I created solely to use as my GMail Drive so I don’t normally logon unless I need to send an invite.
So I logon to send out my invite tonight and notice 2 things. First, the kind folks at google have simplified the invite process a ton! All you have to do is enter an email address and fire off your invite. No more popup window and first and last name requirement.
And then, I noticed something a little more surprising…the 50 invites I have remaining. I’ve hovered between 0 and 12 invites for the last couple months but I’ve apparently done something recently to warrant my receipt of these 50 invites. So I sent off my invite and now you see what I have left.
Needless to say, I have a few to spare. Come and get’em!

After reading this post I went to check out mygmail accounts.
I logged into my first account and 50 invites. I log in to my second account and 50 invites. The other two only had 5 and 4 respectively but still 109 invites :p

I posted the same thing over at my site, since I just got the same little deal in my inbox. Apparently, we’re sort of special (wow!) because friends of mine haven’t been given 50. But is it a gift or a curse? I wasn’t able to find SIX people that wanted invites. How will I ever find FIFTY?!!!

Exactly what I was thinking Ray. I went and checked the gmail invite spooler which I’ve heard of in the past. Its basically a public pool of invites. Those with extras share them and those who need one can take from the pool.
There are now 33,000+ invites up for grabs (and rising) while in the past the number didn’t stay above 0 for long. Looks like we’re not the only ones with a lot of invites!

Yep, I can now agree with you on the not being the only ones part. Turns out I’m not so special after all. My coworker just came to tell me that he too has 50 Gmail invites. Why don’t they just open it up to the public? Google has always done stuff their own way, so maybe this IS their way of opening it up to the public. The invites are no longer in short supply and it seems that everyone that wants one, has one.

I don’t know why Google doesn’t just open it up to the masses. I’m pretty sure that everyone that wants an account has one or five.

Thanks for the invite. Would it be possible to get another one, I’d like to try out your idea of using it as a gmail drive. Neither the account I have nor my wife’s has invites to send out. Thanks Again!

Sure Scott, its on the way.
Ray + Pete – Lately, the responses I’ve received most often when I ask someone if they want a GMail invite are…
1) I already have an account.
2) What’s that mean?
Incidentally, the gmail spooler is at 38,000+ invites now.

I think that gmail is able to generate more interest and more signups by making it “by invitation only”. It makes it sound more interesting.
I too have 50 invites now. If google is giving everyone 50 invites, that means that it is pretty much open for all now.

If you have a current Gmail invitation, I’d really appreciate receiving it. I’ve recently downloaded the new Google Desktop and it seems incomplete without Gmail.
Thanks for considering my request.
