White and Wild is a Winner

The results have been posted for the Textplates Textpattern Template Competition and my White and Wild template was awarded second place. The winning template, Serene is quite nice.

I was pretty surprised to see myself in second place. But damn! Just missed a 30GB Video iPod! There’s always next time. I have a feeling when the second round comes up there will be a lot more entries.

That is wonderful! I was really impressed with your template, and am very glad you got recognition for it! :)

Congratulations! Proof that nice and simple design goes a long way… almost to the top! There is always next time…

Congratulations from me too! Your design is running smooth, fast and simple on my site. As I said before the necessary template tuning was minimal and it was only necessary to go through all the settings, plugins and template files once to have a pretty perfect working template.

My wish list is small and it is more something for a W&W evolution and in no way intended to be criticizing the actual template:

* (optional) sidebars

* (optional) predefined forms for the sidebars (about, linklist, referrer, ...)

* consolidated template settings in a file before installing (i.e. how many articles on homepage)

* alternatively store the template settings from a TXP extension to the database and have your own W&W template variables

* I miss the link categories on the links page.

* Links don’t show up in the Live Search

* (optional) I’d love to have section blocks which show the most recent n articles with excerpts and the older ones with headlines. Right now I have no idea myself how to do it :-)

* section navigation with drop down menus

I know that some of the issues could be solved through some in-depth reading of the TXP manuals and support forums. But as a TXP beginner I would be so lucky to find some cooking recipes or ready made solutions!

Keep on the great work. You have created something which is definitely worth to be developed!

I am planning to use the WAW template on a project. The default behavior for the Posts By Date part of the Archive page seems to be generating a 404? Click on the category link ‘CSS’ (eg ….archives/article/?c=css) under each ‘Post by Date’ to see this.

I forgot to say that this only happens on this page http://themes.wilshireone.com/waw/archives/?c=css
when a category has already been selected from the archive page.

How to get a bigger comment editing area?

A short tuning tip for W&W and for the standard TXP behaviour for the ‘your comment here’ presentation:

I have added the lines

@ .txpCommentInputMessage {

width: 710px; height: 300px;
} @

to the comments section of the CSS WAW_default.

The result is a really nice, big and inviting comment editor area instead of the small 25×5 area which TXP offers by default.

You can see it on my page (click on my name above).

SORRY, the Textile interpretation for ‘code’ is a little wrong here on the page or it’s a Textile bug.

It’s only:

.txpCommentInputMessage {

width: 710px; height: 300px;
}
