My Textplates Submission

I’ll try to end the empty month with a bang by announcing my Textplates submission. Textplates is a template contest for Textpattern. My submission is called White and Wild. The template is actually a fully developed website including home, archives, links, about and contact pages. You can download the template from the Textplates site.

Installation

Aside from the layout itself, the most interesting feature is the installation process. The template is installed as a standard Textpattern plugin. That means there’s no need to do loads of manual cutting and pasting to create styles, pages and forms. You can go from 0 to fully installed Textpattern site in under 5 minutes.

Other Features

  • The site uses valid XHTML and CSS.
  • The stylesheet is organized and commented for easy updating.
  • Installing the theme does not overwrite your existing Textpattern installation.
  • Several commonly used plugins are already integrated with the theme.
  • Tested in current versions of Firefox, IE and Opera on Windows and Firefox, Safari, Camino and Opera on OS X.

Your template is REALLY well done…with an innovative delivery mechanism.

I read (and link to) your Textpattern stuff all the time. Keep up the good work!

I really love what you’ve done.

And I hope the delivery method you’ve used will be used more often. I can add templates and such just fine, but easy is always better! :)

Perhaps you could describe your templating system. It could be a temporary solution for managing themes until an official system is created.

I wouold second the suggestion from Thame. Your next article needs to be a write up on how you put that together and how many sleep deprived night it took you to figure it out ;)

Great job, and thanks for an awesome framework built around the TxP engine.
One question—on a new installation, this link in the head section looks … hmm:

link rel=”alternate” href=”http://themes.wilshireone.com/waw/rss” type=”application/rss+xml” title=”RSS Feed”/

(angle brackets removed for clarity)

I am happily using it :)

My site is brandnew so your wonderful clear and crispy template package just came handy. Great visual impact! A little tweaking here and there and I am already pretty satisfied.

What is missing?
I’d like to have those cool sliding sidebars …

BTW, it is my first TXP installation and being a total beginner I enjoyed the template installation process pretty much! It was a great feeling flying through the installation blindfolded and BOOM it works :)

Thanks all. I know I’m due for an explanation of the plugin installer. It’s actually shaping up as a plugin that I could release for others to use. Just needs a little more work.

I also need to release an updated download of the template first to include some updates to documentation and minor fixes as people have pointed out above.

Anybody can help me to set the front page of the template? I have everything else set, except for the front (homepost) article with the photo (like Rob´s Sears Tower photo). Any help will be appreciated…

Thanks Rob for this excellent template…!!!

Hi Rob,
you made a beautiful work… i love it.
I have a question because I have never used a template before, but I want to use yours for a very ultra-small corporate site, and I dont know if that is possible (i mean, if there is any license or any prohibition for commercial use).

Of course, I will do some deep modifications to your template (like colors).
Basically, what I want to keep is the half upside of your template (header, section menu, and main content) and remove everything in the downside (footer, recent stuff, .

So, my question is:
am I free to do this? am I able to remove the link to your site, and whatever is in the footer?
I hope so :)

Thanks in advance, and would like to see you more often at TXP forum…

Maniqui – Yes, you are free to use this however you wish including a corporate site.

I would prefer that you leave the link in the footer to give me credit for my work. If that will not work, you can move it to another page on the site (like an about page). Either way, I would prefer a visible link on the site back to wilshire|one.

If all of that will not work, please leave a comment at the top of each page in the HTML with the credit to me and this site. It would be appreciated.

Rob, thanks for your answer and thanks for your permission to use the theme.

I will ask the client if he let me create an about page and add the credits for your work.

In the meanwhile, I have added the following to the HTML in the header:

Basado en el tema White and Wild (http://themes.wilshireone.com/waw/), diseñado por wilshire|one (http://www.wilshireone.com)

(between html comment tags, of course)

Do I have to add anything else? Sorry for asking, I have never used a theme before, so I dont know how to give the credits.
