Google Analytics
Sifting through my bloglines updates over lunch I found a post over at the “Official Google Blog” announcing Google’s newest product, “Google Analytics.” You might also know it as the product formerly known as Urchin.
What is it?
Urchin was purchased by Google earlier this Spring and the product was promptly taken off the shelf so to speak. As of today, its back and completely Googlized. The marketing mumbo jumbo doesn’t list any new features other than AdWords integration.
According to Google, “Google Analytics tells you everything you want to know about how your visitors found you and how they interact with your site. You’ll be able to focus your marketing resources on campaigns and initiatives that deliver ROI, and improve your site to convert more visitors.”
Account Signup
I was able to sign up for a new account although I had to fight through a few sporadic messages stating that this afternoon would be reserved for converting existing Urchin uses to Google Analytics. After a few refreshes I was able to create my account and setup this domain along with one other.
Site Setup
The intergration process was expectedly simple. Just add a couple of script calls to the <head> element of your pages and let Urchin go to work.
The Waiting Begins
Apparently within 12 hours I’ll be able to see the first batch of my pretty new reports. I still like the ability to track my stats in real time with a script like bbclone but I’ll be interested to see what Google has come up with this time.
