Plugin Ransom: rss_admin_db_manager
To coincide with the release of Textpattern 4.0 I am releasing for ransom a plugin that brings some long awaited features to the Textpattern admin interface. The rss_admin_db_manager plugin gives you full control over your Textpattern database including the ability to generate, restore and download backups, manage and repair your tables and run SQL statements against your database. Check out all of the screenshots.

The Ransom
A plugin ransom is nothing new to the Textpattern community. Alex explained the deal before his first plugin ransom. Most of the things he mentioned are the case here but with a few minor changes.
So here’s how it works. The plugin will be released into the wild for all the world to enjoy when I am able to collect $222 USD. You can continue to track the progress of the campaign here. The ransom amount could come from 1 person or 222. It matters not to me. But anyone who donates over $20 USD will get the added bonus of being permanently mentioned on the rss_admin_db_manager plugin page and the plugin file’s help with a link to the site of their choice. The campaign will run for as long as it takes to reach the goal.
Once the plugin is released, I will fix any bugs that pop up. The plugin has already been thoroughly tested with some help from Alicson and Kenneth. All of the features have worked successfully on windows and linux platforms on a variety of hosts including Textdrive.
Some Background
The plugin satisfies at least one official feature request in the Textpattern Forum. As the number of TXP sites I run grows, the need for me to have this plugin grew. Using a tool like phpMyAdmin is great but it’s much nicer to have the essential functions of that tool incorporated into the Textpattern admin interface.
The table repair feature from Johan Nilsson’s glx_admin_db_tables plugin can be found in this plugin. The Wordpress 1.5 Database Manager by Lester Chan was also a source of ideas for me.
What it does
Full details can be found on the rss_admin_db_manager plugin page and screenshots of the plugin can be found on the placeholder download page.

It’s so nice how you look around for other examples of this work and credit those you’ve found/borrowed from.
This plugin is awesome, by the way.

This plugin is exactly what I want. It installs fine and looks like it should work but when I click “Create a new backup of the textpattern database .sql file” it gives me the error “BACKUP FAILED: file is empty”. I’m running Windows 2000, Apache 2, TextPattern 4, PHP 4.3.11, MySQL 4.0.12. The “run sql” and “database manager” tab work fine.
